RUST EFFECT: The latest interior design trends

  • 16 December, 2022

RUST IS THE NEW BLACK

Transforming surfaces into rust, has been a trend for a few years now, a trend that doesn’t seem to be anywhere near its end.

The corten, rust effect has first attracted interior designers and architects who are into the industrial style and has then become the passion of d-i-y lovers, and is now the perfect fit for everyone looking for a unique, stylish and rustic design.

HOW DO YOU DO RUST EFFECT?

Before if you wanted to get a rusted look you could either get the costly corten steel or try to achieve a similar effect by mixing different colours of decorative paints.

Now rust effect has become more easily achievable thanks to rust-effect paints.

Rust effect paint is a two-step process that gives the look of rusted iron, creating an industrial appearance.

RUST EFFECT PAINT

How does rust effect paint work? Rust effect paint contains real mettalic and iron particles inside and becomes rusty when activated by its oxidizing solution. This means thart rust effect paint actually replicates the natural process of oxidation, in a controlled manner. The end result is an authentic rusty surface, which is extremely realistic to see and feel.

ALL THE SHADES OF RUST

MP’s STILE ITALIANO Rust Effects offers you a variety of solution to achieve a naturally oxidized rust effect.

FERRUM gives you the iron rust finish, typical of corten steel

SIDERUM not only contains iron, but copper too. With it, you can get a rusted surface with the greenish/bluyish shades of oxidized copper

CUPRUM has the brilliant colour of copper and, once oxidized, it has beautiful verdigris shades.

HOW TO APPLY RUST EFFECT PAINT?

Both FERRUM, SIDERUM and CUPRUM are applied in 2 coats by roller.

Once dry, they are oxidized using ANTICHIZZANTE.

The oxidation can be done using a sponge, brush, or other decorative tools in order to achieve the effect desired. The oxidation can also be done at different intensity in order to achieve deeper or lighter shades of rust.

Each oxidized surface will be different from the other creating a unique artisan effect.
